New Season.....New Car

Faster than ever before..... YouTube - The new A1GP Powered by Ferrari car (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol0O7Q2ZGSk)

http://www.a1gp.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/faster%20car%20inset.jpg

Expect lap records across the A1GP calendar to be broken this season, because it looks like the new A1GP Powered by Ferrari car is going to be rather fast.

Testing this week has indicated that the new racer is already more than two seconds per lap quicker than its predecessor, and there is likely to be more speed to come.

http://www.a1gp.com/uploads/swilverstone4.jpg

Extensive running was carried out on the first ‘production-specification’ version of the car at Silverstone’s International layout this week, with this final design derived following thousands of laps testing and honing the yellow prototype model. This week was the first time the new race car has run on a circuit extensively lapped by the first generation of A1GP racer. Lap times were roughly two seconds per lap quicker than the best ever produced by the previous generation of car at the same venue, even at this relatively early stage of the car's development.

Go Canada Go !!!

If Robert Wickens is back for the next season, we'll be on the chase for the 2008/09 championship. Robert is a driver we always seen during the last season with a few podiums (Sepang at his first A1GP weekend is one of his podiums), good race under the rain (last to 3rd in the Aussie's Sprint Race) and a win (Durban, RSA).

Go Canada !!!
Go Robert !!! (he can be in F1 in 2-3 years)

New Rules 2008/2009

Rule changes for the new season

http://www.a1gp.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/pitstopkings_100647.JPG

The pressure will be even greater for the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport national teams when they go to Mugello, Italy for the start of the 2008/09 season in September.

An extra mandatory pit stop is among the changes to the series’ Sporting Regulations planned to make the racing even more exciting, with the extra stop having to be taken in the A1GP Sprint Race between laps four and eight. It is the first time in A1GP history that the Sprint race will contain a pit stop.

“We never stop looking for ways of improving the action on the track," said Tony Teixeira, A1GP chairman.

"The two pit stops in the Feature Race have proved to be the really high pressure points of the events. We felt an additional one would not only add another variable into the Sprint Race mix, but also give the crews another opportunity to display their team work.

"When we sat down to discuss ways of improving the series from every viewpoint this was a popular addition. However, we have also made other changes that will give the teams greater flexibility in certain areas."

The unique qualifying format has also proved very popular with the spectators and to increase the drama and tension each of the four sessions have now been reduced from 15 to ten minutes with the same five minute break between each. Here the added pressure is on the drivers, as the Sprint Race grid is determined from each driver’s best time taken from sessions one and two and the Feature Race grid from sessions three and four.

Nations can and do use the Friday to try out young or less experienced drivers in the two Rookie and Developing Nation Sessions. This popular addition will continue, but now there will be no age limit and the gap between the two 30 minute sessions has increased from five to 20 minutes.

The duration of the Sprint Race, with its rolling start, has also been increased from 19 to 24 minutes plus one lap, while the Feature Race, from a standing start, remains at 69 minutes plus one lap.

However, now the points’ allocation for the shorter race has also been reduced with them only going to the top eight on the scale of 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The Feature Race remains the same with the top ten receiving points on the scale of 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Top car secrets to be published

http://www.a1gp.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/letslookatcompuet.jpg

This season, as always, the fastest A1GP laps will be watched by millions around the world. But for the first time, the technical secrets behind them will be published.
The 2008/09 sporting regulations were confirmed last week, with the main highlights being a revised points system and the news that the action in the shorter Sprint race will now include a mandatory pit stop. There will also be more pressurised qualifying sessions thanks to less time to set the all important fast times for grid positions, and more time for rookie drivers on a Friday morning.

However, hidden in the regulations, there is another intriguing new rule, which could have an extremely significant affect on the closeness and the quality of this season’s racing – because now, all teams will get some crucial information about the fastest car on the track, and why it is the fastest.

How will this be done? Measurements from sensors placed all around A1GP cars are constantly recording data such as speed, throttle angle and brake pedal pressure. From this season, those measurements taken during the fastest lap recorded in each session will be published for the rest of the pit lane to see. With such information, teams struggling for pace during practice will have a better chance of understanding why they are slower, and hopefully closing that time gap to the front-running car.
The exact wording of the new rule is as follows: “Article 123: After each Practice session and Qualifying, A1GP will make available to all Competitors data showing information relating to the speed, throttle angle, brake application and steering angle of the Fastest Lap achieved overall in each Practice session and in Qualifying.”
All cars are identical, but there are still many different minor adjustments teams can make with that same equipment. A1GP races are decided by driver skill, and how that driver races with the car set-up to his or her liking (a car’s set-up is the way the myriad of different settings are used to maximize its capabilities on a given circuit in given conditions.) This new rule means some basic information on the fastest laps of the weekend will be available to all competitors for the first time – and not just the teams that recorded them. This is new ground for an international motor racing series.
While many spectators and fans are unlikely to be interested in trawling through the various graphs and the numbers themselves, they should be happy if the drivers and engineers of the teams they support do. This could potentially mean they are closer to the pace.

Presently, team fraternisation is one of the most hotly-debated issues in A1GP. Every nation is racing for itself, but some choose to work alongside each other in the pit lane, sharing technical data. By sharing information such as throttle position, downforce levels and the data readings, a driver could potentially learn from another’s telemetry where they could, for example, improve at a particular corner. However, the flipside to that is a team also gives away its own information to a rival nation.
While the data given by A1GP after every session will not be as exhaustive as the telemetry readings from their own cars, it could potentially reveal that piece of crucial information a team needs. The grid for the Feature race in Zhuhai last season was just 1.4 seconds from the front to the back. What price on a grid with an even smaller gap this season?

Ultimately, what it will mean is that the emphasis on driver ability will be more than ever before.

Andretti Green Racing to run USA

http://www.a1gp.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/michael%20andretti%20insert%202.jpg

A name that stands for American racing royalty will join forces with A1GP World Cup of Motorsport for Season Four. Andretti Green Racing (AGR), the most successful team in Indy Racing League history, announced today it will run the US entry in A1GP beginning at Circuit Park Zandvoort, the Netherlands this weekend.

“We are very proud to be representing the United States on the level and competitive playing field that is provided by A1GP,” said team co-owner, Michael Andretti. “Andretti Green has been fortunate to enjoy a reasonable amount of success in just six short years of operation and we’re looking forward to joining the world stage of A1GP.”

Andretti, who is a racing legend himself, will be on hand at Circuit Park Zandvoort to announce the team’s Season Four driver lineup.

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport will start Season Four next week at the A1GP Zandvoort, Netherlands event on 4/5 October with a smaller grid than anticipated.

http://www.a1gp.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/zandvoort%20air.jpg

The series has made no secret of its car build delay, and this has impacted on the number that will be on the grid at the Dutch seaside
resort track.

http://www.a1gp.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/pre-event%20festivities.jpg

“The situation we find ourselves in is unfortunate," said A1GP CEO, Pete da Silva. "We have a small number of teams who will not be in Zandvoort. While these teams are obviously very disappointed, they understand we have done everything possible but just ran out of time.

http://www.a1gp.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/bleekemolen%20car.jpg

“I am aware of how hard our teams have been working, and are continuing to do that day and night. The fact some won’t make the grid next week will not be for lack of trying.

A1 Team France has claimed the first Feature race victory of the season in extremely wet conditions at Circuit Park Zandvoort in The Netherlands.
From third on the grid Loic Duval put in a mature drive, taking the lead before the first round of pit stops and holding on until the end despite two safety car periods curtailing his advantage.

With Andretti Green Racing taking the A1.Team.USA this year, I think then USA can win the title specially with Marco Andretti and Danica Patrick behind the wheel. The both drivers are very good in IndyCar. North America (Canada and USA) can do many good think this year. We know everybody what USA can do and Canada with Robert Wickens can win also a few races. Last season, Robert have win his first race and made a few podiums with a brilliant Sprint Race in Australia. In 20 minutes, with slick tyres on a wet track, he finished 3rd when he have started 15th.

Go Canada !!! Go USA !!!

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport heads to Chengdu International Circuit in Sichuan
province in the south west of China for round two of the 10-event series on 7-9
November.

This new track to the series has a lot to live up to in terms of entertainment after a thrilling
season-opener at Zandvoort. Held in treacherous wet conditions last month, Malaysia’s Fairuz
Fauzy took the team’s first victory in 27 races and France’s Loïc Duval take the Feature race win.

http://www.a1gp.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/chinacar.jpg

A1 Team China was in action last week testing at Silverstone in the UK with both Ho-Pin Tung
and Congfu Cheng getting a chance behind the wheel of the new Powered by Ferrari car. The
team is yet to announce which driver will be in the race seat for its home event, but both were
equally keen to get the opportunity, although neither would have any advantage because Chengdu
is unknown territory to them.

Chengdu International Circuit

Although having raced in China five times in the last three seasons, A1GP heads to the Chengdu
International Circuit for the first time. The race will give the series the opportunity to help the
earthquake struck region with proceeds from the event going to the Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fund.

Chengdu City is the capital of the Sichuan province in the south west of the country, while the track,
which lies 16 kilometres south west of the city centre, is 3.367-kilometres (2.019 miles) long and
features 14 turns. The circuit runs in a clockwise direction with an 820m straight and the total length
of the circuit is 3,331m. Some parts of the track are 22-metres its widest point, with the narrowest
sections about 12-metres wide, which should allow for plenty of room for wheel-to-wheel action.

Lippo circuit fails build deadline

Friday, January 16, 2009

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport has been forced to accept round five of its 2008/09 season, which was due to take place on 6-8 February 2009 at Lippo Village, Indonesia, can no longer go ahead.

This follows notification this morning from the FIA that certain aspects of the track construction project, undertaken by the local promoter and organisers of the event, have failed to meet the requisite completion deadlines.

As a result, the FIA is not able to issue the necessary circuit licence on time for the event to proceed, and has removed the event entry from its International Series calendar.
This information was given to A1GP CEO, Pete da Silva, today and his comment was: “Obviously it is extremely disappointing for all concerned and not the news any of us wanted. The bottom line is, for safety reasons, A1GP cannot race on a circuit that does not meet or has not received the necessary licence from the FIA, so we have no other option but to cancel all plans to bring the A1GP show to Indonesia in three weeks’ time”.
The series will now go from next week’s event, A1GP Taupo, New Zealand, to A1GP Gauteng, South Africa, which is on 20-22 February. A1GP do not plan to run the Indonesian event at a later date in Season Four, but may consider an event in Season Five.

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport prepares to hit the track for the first races of 2009 when the series descends on New Zealand this week for its third visit to the Taupo Motorsport Park.

For the A1GP Taupo event, the series will break with tradition and the Sprint race will have a standing and not a rolling start. The decision was taken on safety grounds, as in the past there have been collisions due to the tight ‘s’ bend close to the start.

About Taupo circuit:

http://www.a1gpcms.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/Taupo_Black460X256.jpg

The new Taupo Motorsport Park racetrack complex, built by MIT Development Ltd, took over the original site used for the existing Taupo Car Club. The old 1.4-kilometre circuit underwent an upgrading and lengthening, to create the new international layout in 2006.

The complex now also includes a motorsport business park and driver training centre. The track includes three alternative configurations, with two separate pit areas and start/finish lines, to allow simultaneous use of two tracks. The international circuit, used for A1GP, features an 830-metre straight, which also doubles as a drag strip. The circuit was altered slightly for 2008, with a tighter chicane introduced at the end of the back straight. This was instrumental in providing more overtaking opportunities at last season’s events.

Track length: 3.5km (2.17 miles)

Circuit Lap record: 1:14.679s – Neel Jani, A1 Team Switzerland, January 2008

TimeTable: Qualifying Saturday 2:00 CET - Race 1:45 CET Sunday

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport makes its first ever visit to South Africa’s most famous motor racing circuit, Kyalami, this weekend for round five of the series, Go-GP.Org A1GP Gauteng, South Africa on 20 - 22 February 2009.

http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/1206/kopievona1gpez1.jpg

The Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit is located in Gauteng province, just north of Johannesburg and has a rich history of international motorsport events on four and two wheels. The balanced blend of slow, medium and fast corners and the fact Kyalami is nearly 2,000 metres above sea level will present a challenge to both the race drivers and engineers at this weekend’s event.

The event is being supported by a number of commercial partners, including Go-GP.Org, the Gauteng government, SAB Miller, ABI and Neo Africa. Neo Africa will be hosting the exclusive Ignition and Podium parties and Pit Stop Party on the A1GP race weekend, as well as hosting a Charity Supercar Parade on race day for A1GP fans. Neo Africa will also be providing the facilities and communications infrastructure for the media centre at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

Mexico City for 2008/09 finale

http://www.a1gp.com/a1gpresources/article_images/_Global/mexico%20city%20crowds_114159.jpg

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport has been given FIA approval to hold A1GP Mexico City, Mexico on the weekend of the 22-24 May 2009, thus making this the eighth and final round of Season Four.

This popular event, which has been included on the A1GP calendar since Season Two, has never before been the series decider.

“It is very important for the series to go back to Mexico City, especially as it won the award for being the best run event of Season Three," said A1GP CEO, Pete da Silva.

"The fans have always given us a warm welcome, and it will be great to let them witness the finale of what has been a very exciting first season for the A1GP Powered by Ferrari cars.”
The approval is subject to the completion of FIA stipulated track changes that will allow the granting of the necessary licence (see plans below). This work is due to start soon.
A1GP has visited Mexico every season with Fundidora Park in Monterrey being the track used in Season One and Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City in Seasons Two and Three.

The result means Jani now has ten A1GP victories to his name – more than any other driver in the history of the sport.

Portugal’s Filipe Albuquerque drove a fantastic race to come through to second, while Fairuz Fauzy was third for Malaysia. Ireland’s Adam Carroll finished second on the road, but a subsequent penalty dropped him to fifth.

Title to be won at Brands Hatch

http://www.a1gp.com/A1GPResources/article_images/_GLOBAL/maintopperimage.jpg

While the news that A1GP Mexico City, Mexico has had to be cancelled due to the swine flu outbreak is sad, the upshot is that there is now a mouth-watering title battle to be decided this weekend at Brands Hatch.

Three teams are covered by just six points in the standings and, with the situation being so tight, there is no possibility of it even being decided in the earlier Sprint race. It is guaranteed to go right to the wire in the Feature race in what will be a winner-takes-all showdown.

It means that the A1GP championship will be decided in the very final race of the season for the very first time. Switzerland leads the title race with 88 points, while Ireland has 86 and Portugal 82. If nations are tied on points at the end of the season, the number of victories will determine the champion. If that is the same, it is number of second places, then third places.

Track Facs:

Brands Hatch has existed since 1926, when a grass track was used for motorcycles. Since then, many motor racing legends have won at the circuit, including Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, Emerson Fittipaldi and Ayrton Senna.

The 2.65-mile Grand Prix circuit was constructed in 1959 and first held a major motor racing event in 1960. During the Sixties, the owners negotiated a deal that meant the British Grand Prix alternated between Brands Hatch and Silverstone.

Through the Eighties and Nineties, the circuit changed ownership several times, before being bought by MotorSport Vision in 2004, headed by ex-F1 driver Jonathan Palmer.

Since then the circuit has hosted many international motorsport meetings, with World Superbikes, DTM and World Touring Car fans regularly making the pilgrimage to Kent.
