Club doctors have confirmed that Rafa Márquez has ruptured the internal and external meniscus of his left knee and will be out for between 8 and 10 weeks. He will be operated on this Saturday.

Márquez will therefore miss the rest of the season. The tests carried out on Rafa Marquez this morning (Wednesday) in the Hospital de Barcelona confirmed that he has damaged the internal and external meniscus of his left knee.

Operation set for Saturday

http://www.fcbarcelona.com/web/Imatges/2008-2009/futbol/noticies/partits/champions/fcb-chelsea/_M3_3499.JPG

The player will be operated on next Saturday morning in Barcelona’s Clínica Quirón. He will be out for about 8 to 10 weeks according to the medical bulletin.

Doctors’ press conference

After the operation, Drs Cugat and Pruna will give a press conference in the Camp Nou press room at about 12 noon.

Rafa Márquez injured himself during the match against Chelsea while unchallenged in midfield . He immediately fell to the ground and was replaced by Carles Puyol.

Anything other than a loss will be a good result, a draw would be great, but of course a win would be even better, but if we draw, I won't lose too much sleep over it, knowing that we will travel to stamford bridge, with a good attitude

Messi: "No cambio a ninguno de mis compañeros por nadie del Madrid." (I would not switch any of my team mates for any Real Madrid player. Or any player from another team.)

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/6023/messipresscon.png

Lionel Messi has admitted that he would prefer Barcelona to beat Chelsea next week rather than Real Madrid in the league this weekend.

The Argentine was speaking after receiving the Marca legend award this evening and also revealed that he does not mind what the result is at the Bernabeu, as long as his side win.

"I would prefer to beat Chelsea because if we lose against Madrid we will still be in front, whereas in the Champions League there is no room for error," he told Marca.

"The result does not matter, 0-1 or 0-2 is the same. What is important is the win. I hope to score but if I don't it doesn't matter."

Indeed, the last time Barcelona played at the Bernabeu they could not manage to beat their hosts and ended up losing 4-1.

Messi insists that his side will not be looking for revenge when they meet on Saturday but just to win.

"It is not about revenge, no. We want to win the game because it would be an important step towards the league title. What happened was that they were better than us and we did the guard of honour out of respect," he explained.

Finally, Messi responded to compliments from England coach Fabio Capello, who praised the Argentine in an interview recently.

"I always have gratitude for words from Capello, he has done very well. Listening to him with everything that he knows is good," he concluded.

Lionel Messi

The Argentine forward told reporters on Wednesday that he is not interested in any possible future overtures from Real Madrid or anyone else: “Money doesn’t buy happiness. I’ve got everything in Barcelona and I wouldn’t change Barça for anything”.

At a prize-giving ceremony organised by sports daily “Marca” at a Barcelona hotel, Leo Messi answered questions on the latest Barça news. Messi was accompanied by Club directors Rafael Yuste, Albert Perrín and Jacint Borràs, and the head of external relations Manel Estiarte. Leo is the sixth – and youngest – player to win the award.

Happy at Barça

Messi gave a rapid and unambiguous reply to questions relating to a hypothetical future move to Real Madrid. “I’m very happy at Barça. I’ve got everything in Barcelona. My family is also very happy. I wouldn’t change Barça for anything”.

“We’re not looking for revenge”

Moving on to next Saturday’s big match away to Real Madrid, Messi assured reporters: “We’re not looking for revenge. I hope we win in the Bernabéu and take an important step toward the title. And if we get a win we’ll face the match against Chelsea more calmly”.

“I’m sure we’ll score there”

Leo Messi also looked back at Tuesday’s match against Chelsea: “It was a very tough and difficult match. We tried to play our game at all times but we didn’t get the luck. We have another match and I don’t doubt at all that we’ll score there”.

Renewed optimism

Messi is very happy with the way the team is working and is upbeat about the final stages of the season: “We’re very together as a team and we’re all motivated and wanting to give Barça a trophy after two seasons without winning anything. The job that Guardiola has done is key and we are hopeful compared to last season”.

Bayern Munich is reported to enroll Louis van Gaal as the new coach in the summer. Van Gaal has trained Ajax Amsterdam 1991–1997 and won the 2nd Champions League campaign with a wonderful young ensemble around Davids, Kluivert and Seedorf, 1997–2000 and 2002–2003 he coached Barca and 2000–2002 the Netherlands. He is maybe the highest-profiled exponent of Voetbal totaal as a coach today. I am very curious if the Bayern can learn to play beautiful 4-3-3 attacking football, surely not next season but maybe in 2010-11.

The Citizens have some building to do and some trophy-winning to enjoy before they can hope to attract the likes of the Argentine maestro to the club...

http://i.media.goal.com/g/47197_news.jpg

Lionel Messi has stated that he would not consider joining Manchester City because he does not want to leave Barcelona and that the English side do not have the history
of the Catalan giants.

The Argentinian has been previously linked with a mega-bid from the Eastlands-based outfit, but any amount of money is unlikely to persuade him to leave Camp Nou.

While Messi's connections with Barca are deep-rooted, he does not think that City are on a par with the Blaugrana at the moment and thinks that the English club should use Villarreal as an example.

“I only think of Barcelona and not of other clubs, including Manchester City. Of course, such interest from other teams is flattering but my place in the world is in Barcelona with this club,” he told ShortList.

“Barcelona have a better history, so it seems difficult to me that a club like Manchester City could ever be as big as Barcelona.

“Maybe after a period of time it could be achieved but I don’t believe it is something that will happen overnight.

“In Spain for example, Villarreal are now competing with the biggest teams in Europe although they are not considered as wealthy or as famous as others.

“The club is widely respected, so it is perhaps not impossible for Manchester City to achieve something similar, but they will have to be patient.”

Robinho's move to Manchester City has seen him produce his best and his worst, but Messi thinks that the team should not rely solely on the Brazilian to help them out of trouble.

“The most important thing about football is that it is always a team game," he continued.

“One player alone, even Robinho, cannot make a big difference to a team in this sport if the other players do not contribute.

“It is important to be complemented on the pitch by your teammates, which is what happens at Barcelona and it happens to me with the Argentina national team, which has great players too.”

Do you think he will be missed at Barca if he decides to leave Uli?
Technically speaking there are many other strikers, which could do his job, as well, if we do sell him in the summer, I would love to have David Villa in our side or El Kun, what do you think Uli?

I really love Sammy's commitment, his kind of moving, passing, scoring, holding the ball, I don't mind if he stays until he retires. I would like to see new strikers too but the most important problem is, it takes sooo looong to learn to play 4-3-3 attacking (and holding) Barca style football (think of Henry, not to mention Hleb). I am totally happy with our three strikers, let Titi go in 2010-11, maybe then David Silva or Diego Capel or Ribery (who seem to prefer los Blancos) will be a good choice. But now there is no urgent need unless Titi wants to sign his last big contract with some MLS club. But we could need a 6th striker with ambition, I dont' how Jeffren developed this season, but he impressed me much in preseason games, maybe Pep picks him up for first team this summer.

I agree the summer will be interesting, as Laporta has promised one big name signing for the club, I don't mind if we get Ribery either and give bayern hleb because then we can rotate the left flank for a season with Henry and Ribery for a year before Henry retires and Ribery takes over.

My list of players which would be great signings:
David Villa
Diego Capel
Kun Aguero
Ribery
I must admit, I thought we was going to sign Diego Capel last summer, but Sevilla were not prepared to let 3 of their best players go so we got keita and D.Alves instead, I think he would make a fine addition to a young front line, with his speed and ability to take on defenders, he would bring us what Henry lacks down that flank.

He is naturally a left winger and is only 20, but his price tag would be far less than Ribery

The deal is done and dusted, if reports from the Spanish press are to be believed...

The European tug-of-war surrounding the transfer of French winger Franck Ribery has been battle between the continent's hot shots, with clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Barcelona topping the list of potential suitors.

According to a report published by El Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have struck a deal with the player's agent and the only matter left is the consent of Bayern Munich's officials.

Representatives of the Catalan outfit were at a top 'secret meeting' with Ribery's agent Alain Migliaccio in Ibiza, an exotic island off the coast of Spain where Migilaccio resides.

The report suggests that Barcelona offered Bayern €25 million for Ribery, plus the option of either Eidur Gudjohnsen or Aliaksandr Hleb, each of whom are rated at around €8 million. Both players have not featured regularly for Barca this season and are likely to consider a switch in search for more playing time.

Bayern are believed to have given up on the prospect of keeping their star player for another season, after talks for a contract extension have fallen on deaf ears, and the player himself declaring that he would leave Germany if his team did not qualify for the Champions League.

Ribery has been in top-form this season, impressing football fans around the world with his sparkling displays in Europe's blue ribbon competition, but has expressed his desire to try his luck at a bigger club.

The excellent relations between the two clubs are reported to have been a pivotal factor in the success of the deal, setting ideal conditions for the terms to be discussed. Joan Laporta will be in Germany this evening to watch a Euroleague basketball game in Munich.

Neither clubs have confirmed the statements as of yet.

Barcelona will take on Tottenham Hotspur and Al-Ahly at Wembley during a prestigious pre-season trip to London as the Catalan club begin their preparations for the 2009-2010 campaign.

The Blaugrana will travel to the English capital on July 21 after a few days of training in the Catalan capital in order to build strength and stamina after the summer break.

On July 24 they will meet Harry Redknapp's Tottenham Hotspur side at Wembley - the first time that the Blaugrana have played at the new arena.

Two days later, Barca will take on Egyptian giants Al-Ahly at he same venue and will then jet off to a destination that has yet to be decided, although the United States is being considered.

After starting pre-season at St. Andrews in Scotland for the past two years, Barcelona have chosen to move slightly further south this time around in what is set to be a money-spinning few days.

“The conditions for the trip are ideal for the team’s initial training sessions but also it is good economically,” the Blaugrana’s vice president, Alfons Godall, explained.

Barca are seeking to line-up a trip to either the United States or Asia to create more income and to boost the club's popularity around the globe.

a little late but this historical event must be mentioned here

Now that’s what you call football! (2-6)

FCBarcelona.cat (http://www.fcbarcelona.com/web/english/futbol/temporada_08-09/arxiu_partits/lliga/jornada34/Madrid_Barcelona/partit.html)

Barça have won at the Bernabéu with an amazing display of attacking and entertaining football. Henry (2), Puyol, Messi (2) and Piqué scored the goals in a historic victory that leaves the team just five points away from the championship title.

May 2, 2009 will go down as one of the most historic days in the proud history of FC Barcelona. A day to compare with that magnificent February 14, 1974 when that legendary side led by Johan Cruyff won 5-0 at the Bernabéu. 35 years later, Barça have once again brought Madrid to their knees with a recital of football at its very best.

Barça were simply majestic in the first half, delivering the same delightful football that has been causing so many thrills all season. Not even an early setback, with Juande Ramos’ side opening the scoring, was going to stop the Barça magic. Playing attacking football all the way, the league leaders bombarded Casillas’ goal, and on three occasions, thanks to Henry, Puyol and Messi, found the back of the net.

The second half offered more of the same. Ramos pulled one back for the home side, but Henry and Messi soon responded to take Barça’s tally up to a remarkable five. But even that wasn’t the end of it. Piqué finished off an incredible evening by making it 6-2. But it would not be any kind of exaggeration to claim that Barça could easily have won by a whole lot more. There simply are no words to describe what we witnessed tonight.

Madrid goal fails to worry

The Bernabéu was ready, but it was Barça, as one might expect, who made the first shot on goal, coming from Xavi. Then, with the game just 13 minutes old, the home fans were able to celebrate as Higuaín put Real ahead with a well taken header from a Ramos cross. But the Madrid faithful would not be celebrating for long. Barça hadn’t even started, and as they rolled into action, Henry broke down the left but Eto’o narrowly failed to get on the end of his dangerous cross. Moments later and the Frenchman was on the end of a pinpoint assist from Messi, and deftly placed the ball past Casillas to equalise just four minutes after Madrid had taken the lead.

Captain scores

The Barça onslaught on the Madrid goal was under way. In the 20th minute Xavi played a free kick from the edge of the area, and Puyol latched onto it with his head to put Barça into the lead – and celebrated by kissing the captain’s armband. But at this stage Madrid were still in it, and Valdés was exceptional as he saved twice from Robben and also prevented Alves from putting the ball in his own net.

Barça make it three

With the Madrid defence advancing its lines, there was ample room for Barça to manoeuvre, and Leo Messi in particular was causing danger every time he got the ball. From the 23rd to 26th minute, Casillas was called upon no fewer than three times, twice against Messi and once against Eto’o. But so much pressure was eventually going to produce more goals, and just that happened in the 35th minute. Xavi picked up on a loose ball in the danger zone and Messi stroked the ball past the Madrid keeper to make it 3-1. With Barça in clear command, Guardiola preferred to slow the pace for the rest of the half with long periods of continued possession, almost toying with a Madrid side that was left haplessly chasing after the ball.

History repeating

Into the second half, and two slaloming runs from Iniesta (min 47) and Messi (min 53) suggested that Barça were back in the hunt for more goals. Yet Madrid suddenly found themselves back in with a shout when Sergio Ramos nodded home a free kick in the 55th minute to narrow the gap to one. But like in the previous half, Henry responded immediately to a Madrid goal by scoring one of his own. The French striker took advantage of a magnificent pass from Xavi to dodge his way past Casillas, who was way off his line, and convert Barça’s fourth in the 58th minute. Then Messi almost added another with a deft touch inside the six-yard area.

Messi makes it five

With two goals in it, both teams went back to what they are best at: Madrid playing tough physical football, Barça relying on skill. Andrés Iniesta, one of the finest exponents of the latter, was probably quite right to call for a penalty when he was brought down by Lass in the 72nd minute. Unperturbed, Barça returned to the job, and another brilliant pass from Xavi found Messi inside the area, and the Argentinian made no mistake and made it five.

Madrid hit for six

But Barça still hadn’t finished humiliating Madrid. Piqué added a sixth in the 83rd minute to round off a staggering night of football at the Bernabéu. The result and everything we saw on the pitch made it resoundingly clear - Barça are by far the best team in the Spanish championship. Now, they just need five more points to make mathematically sure of a fully deserved title.

you're right. I guess it wouldn't be fair for any of the teams to be compaired to Cruyff's team in the 70s. God knows what Barcelona style would be today without his influence.

But compaired to the Ronaldinho era the actual team impresses me more I have to say. Maybe partly because I didn't have the chance to follow Rijkaard's team every single game, this was my pre-myp2p-era :D
but if I compare those two teams I see a slight difference between them, don't know exactly how to define it but for me this makes them the better team.

I think the difference lies with Ronaldinho, as he was the arrow in our attack but now that we have sold him, we are playing as a 10 man arrow and we are defending alot better and have better focus in games.

and of course improvments to the likes of Iniesta who is shinning at the moment and Dani Alves in our attack, aswell as Henry hitting form this season

As a Barcelona fans, I think you deserved to loose playing anti football for 180 minutes, camped in your own half like cowards, when the players of barca are half the size of those of chelsea, to me that shows the dominance of spanish football over english, how can you say that chelsea deserved to win, when your team played like cowards defending 10 men in your own half for the entire two ties, even when barca went down to 10 men you took of your only striker and put on yet another defender.

The only thing chelsea deserve is a ban from european football, for acting like animals.

so every italian team should be banned to right?
its called results-oriented playing and has something to do with great teams ;)
the only thing which matters is success and not how great every action look...
i think you dont understand the common rules...when i would play against a dangerous team like barca and lead 1-0 i would reinforce the defense even more and wait for counters...this is common in international football. i dont know what you are talking about.
and barca showed that they only can play with glory and didnt can play normal and simple and easy. they had to play the extra pass and all this flourish!

Dinho's goal was incredible but he was the worlds best player and could come up with magic, so no surprise there, I think Iniesta's goal is better because of the importance of it and that it was in the 93rd minute and it was our only shot on goal, against a very difficult physical chelsea team :D

Barcelona manager, Pep Guardiola, has insisted that Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher should have his red card rescinded and be allowed to play in the Champions League final.

The Scot was sent off in United’s semi-final win over Arsenal in midweek, for a challenge on Cesc Fabregas in the area, and this means he is banned for the final against Barcelona later this month.

However, television replays later revealed that Fletcher had got his foot to the ball and this has prompted United to contact UEFA in the vain hope of getting the ban lifted.

Speaking to the News of the World, the Barcelona boss insisted that Fletcher’s sending off had been unwarranted and that he hoped he would be allowed to play.

“I will not be disappointed at all if the card is rescinded,” he said.

“Fletcher got a touch on the ball.”

The 38-year-old also insisted that Eric Abidal, who was sent off in Barcelona’s game with Chelsea, also deserved to play, as did Dani Alves who picked up a yellow card and also faces suspension.

The Catalan side have since confirmed they will also appeal the two decisions and Guardiola admitted he was hopeful the duo could join Fletcher in Rome at the end of the month.

“Eric Abidal's challenge was also not a foul, so they should both be able to play in the final,” he said.

“I want them all to play - Fletcher, Abidal and Dani Alves [also suspended]. Let's see if we can come to some sort of agreement with Manchester United.”

You keep talking rubbish about la liga and how great the epl is, it is foreign imports which make the epl great, foreign managers, foreign players, foreign owners, the only english thing about it is where it is based. That is a fact, just look at the top 4.

If you make such statements, please give some examples. From my end its exactly the other way around. Each team in La Liga can beat another team with attacking football. Playing attacking football again Barca though IS dangerous and can be punished easily. That's why you get monster scores now and then.
But more importantly, the fans demand attractive football with native players. This is not by choice though, because financially EPL in general is working with super budgets compared to spain (except Real, which has the biggest budget in the world).

I would love to get an example how the EPL has greater talent... which is not bought. Look at the England squad, there were not even at the EC.

Way to state the obvious, you wanna find out real attacking football then watch the CL final, any team that tries to attack our defence just gets punished on the counter, Arsenal being our latest victims. This isnt an argument of homegrown talent but ofcourse we have the likes if Rooney, Gerrad, Lampard, Beckham, Terry, Ferdinand etc. (notice no Arsenal players) That have all cometed on the big stage and have won something there or there abouts in Europe. Then take a look at our under-21s we have one of the most promising youth teams in the world, Spain right up their aswell.
Back to what I was saying, the EPL has much greater talent then la liga you cant complain about money (How much did Real spend on Zidane, Figo or Beckham? Or Barca spend on Henry, Ronaldhino or Overmars?) the EPL is just growing and it's down to the other leagues to keep up, like you say Real Madrid are the richest club in the world and they cant even win their own talentless league...their the Man City of Spain.
If Barca really are how you make them out to be (defenceless) then your in for a nice high score that you relish, unfortunately Barca wont be the ones scoring

I am not arguing that the EPL is growing fast. This is something of the last 10 years. In fact, Marco van Basten (ex coach already of Ajax said that is probably better to play in the UEFA cup than in the CL because Ajax simply can't compete anymore). The big teams get bigger and the rest simpy can't catch up anymore.

But the first thing you said is perfect proof of the difference of the EPL and la Liga. In short you favour fast effective counterfootball.. I, as a Liga fan, prefer dominating totall attack football. Sure, you get some goals against. But football is not just about results. it's also about the beauty (esthetics) of the game.

And Real and their budget, total mismanagement is the right term. They just can't see that you need to build a team. and maybe have some years without prizes. Ofcourse, the fans won't allow that to.

You're also giving the examples of ronaldihno etc. Sure, Barca also buys players. But they buy players who fit in their filosofy. The rest of the team are homegrown, and Catalan (mostly) also. The only team that is somewhat comparable is .. Arsenal, but they just can't keep up with Man U and the rest also anymore.

I think this gets the point perfectly. La liga and the premiership are two different leagues with two different football philosophies. EPL stlye may be more efficient and successful concerning international titles at the moment but thats not most important for me too. I like to watch this 'total attack football' which you hardly find in EPL but most of the primera divison teams capable of playing it. I would be ashamed of my team if they played e.g. the way Chelsea did in the first leg of the cl semis, no matter if this style would be more successful or not.

Both the EPL and primera divison set the standards for international football right now, claiming that any of those leagues is shit or talentless like powerslide did is foolish.

Great news matt, lets hope titi can make it too

yeah lets hope so but let's take one game after the other. Fist the Cup final in two day's time and then we can hopefully secure the league against Mallorca. Afterwards our whole focus should be on Rome.

Btw I very much share Laporta's opinion on the Villareal game. He said it may have been good that they didn't win the league on sunday, it could have distracted them too much from the Cup final with all the celebrations that would have been going on.

in the end this decade was alright. when you met non-gloryhunters who didnt have a wide knowledge about history of spanish football in 2004 in german football boards, sometimes they wondered why Barça is considered to be the most important club in iberian football along with Real Madrid cause the recent performances didnt seem to justify it.

the cantera and the gloryhunters help of course, since the team hopefully will never belong to a obscure investor. So when you dont have to buy so many superstars and have better incomes than other spanish teams cause of the worldwide fanbase its easier to come through this economically difficult times and its still enough money left to buy norwegian referees.

The spanish national anthem was awesome yesterday, great times right now and it would be beautiful to see the team winning the triple for the first time of course.

Andrej Arshavin: "I love Barcelona for the same reasons I love Arsenal. It is as if they do not even think of the result, they just want to play and score and if they lose, OK, then they will go out and do it again and win next time. At Arsenal, all we think about is how to attack, how to score, how to dribble, how to make a pass. We do not think so much about defence. Probably, for results, this is no good: but I like it."

FC Barcelona would be the perfect club in all matters if the socios weren't who they are. They strictly demand beautiful and successful football but if the team fights with difficulties like last two season they leave it alone and shove white handkerchiefs. This season Camp Nou is quite more lively than before but certainly does not feel and sound like the most passionate fans of the world. If you want real passion, you should watch Boca Juniors vs River Plate or Galatasaray vs Fenerbahce!

matt_aut
16-05-2009, 18:15
I totally agree but isn't this philosophy what makes the club so special? I wouldn't say I share the same opinion with some of the socis and their support and passion is a real shame if the club goes through a unsuccessful period but Barca belongs to it's fans and this is a main reason for the way the team plays I think.

Thats a joke matt, Inter are crazy for asking for that sort of a deal.

The best deal this summer is if we can swoop for both Ribery and Lahm in one deal, because the Ribery deal is done already, they just need to announce it publicaly, when the season ends, but Lahm would be a good left back, similar in attack as danny alves, he would give us great width going forward, what do you think matt?

I dont know about lahm, he's doing a good job at Bayern, would be interesting to see how he would perform in Spain. But you're right we need another player for the defense and Lahm would indeed be an interesting choice. One attack-minded wing-back for each side :D But wold Bayern really sell their most important players at once?
Concerning Ribery, we are not the only club who want to sign him there are also Manchester United and Real Madrid with Perez taking over so there's tough competition. But who knows, we might have the pole position for the Ribery deal at the moment and good connections to him with Titi.

Just one thing: What would you think about David Villa if Eto'o really leaves this summer? Would still be my favourite choice!

Yep spot on matt, that is my first choice aswell, but if we can not get Ribery, then I would go for Diego Capel from sevilla, (just a quick flash back) he played for our academy until the age of 16, then we did not offer him a good contract, so he went to sevilla and the rest is history, I hope we can sign him back, as he is just like messi, But on the left flank.

This is typically the media. Especially the spanish media who have like 20 pages op foottie news to deliver each day. Messi will never never go to Madrid.

And Zlathan, he is a great player but his personality doesn't fit barca. And with Pep who like discipline and obedience from players.

The Ribery case is interesting. A few weeks ago i thought it was in the pocket. With Hleb expressing his wishes to play for bayern and with the Henry connection. Then, Man U was offering like 70 mil, but only in case Ronaldo left to Madrid (which is not going to happen, but you never know).
I just don't see Barca paying 70+ mil for a player, even if he fits the squad perfectly.

Sports director Mijatovic is the first one to leave Real, his successor will very likely be the great Jorge Valdano, Juande Ramos will be the next to be fired.
To purchase Messi is not a question of money. Messi is a product of the Barca academy La Masia, he owes the club a lot and there were never any signs of discontent. In a few years, when he won everything he could one or two or three times, he will go to a different club particularly in a different league, to make some different experiences and to show that he could also succeed in England or Italy. But I see absolutely no reason why he should go to Madrid.
I really don't like Zlatan Ibrahimovic though he's a good striker used to the Ajax system. I don't understand these Eto'o speculations at all. I hope he stays and that Titi too will stay for another season. All we need is a left winger and a left back. Henrique will come from loan to Bayer Leverkusen and Gabi Milito will hopefully return so that we don't need another full back.
PS to my fellow musketeers: I didn't notice that Barca already plays on saturday, of course i am with you to celebrate El Campeon in the Camp Nou!!

Messi to Real is about as far from reality as the league title for the Merengues at the moment. This won't ever happen, Messi is no traitor. Perez simply has to mention the big names like Ronaldo, Kaka, Messi and so on. I'm sure he'll sign one or two big names (IF he gets elected) and they may come back next season.

About the Eto'o rumours: I guess we all would like him to stay but it has been a long time and still no extenison so, sadly, they must be searching for alternatives. And to bring a new name into our speculations: Allegedly Bilbao forward Fernando Llorente is one of Txiki's favourites for next seaso's #9.

Despite Real Madrid's constant interest in Franck Ribery, it is now Barcelona who appear to have struck a deal with the player.

According to Sport, the French winger has his heart set on a move to the Camp Nou and the two parties have reached a verbal agreement. All that remains is for Barcelona and Bayern Munich to agree a fee.

According to the report, Bayern are only courting Real Madrid in an attempt to raise the price Barca will pay for the player, since they know that there is an agreement. But Barcelona might be able to lower the price by offering certain players in exchange.

A prime candidate to be used in the deal is Belarus international Aliaksandr Hleb.

The midfielder has had a poor first season at the Camp Nou and he has previous Bundesliga experience with Stuttgart. In addition to Hleb, Eidur Gudjohnsen or Bojan (on loan) are also possibilities.

He is not the commentator of Radio Catalunya, he's Joan Maria Pou from Rac-1, he says Yayardu joking with Yaya's name and words like trallardu or xutardu, etc, some vulgar names that we use when we want to describe a nice strong shoot, like the Yaya's ones :D

just kidding!

Back to Barca i don't hink you need Ribery, you still have Hleb coming back from injury,Gudjohnsen can help, henry is finding his way,Messi and eto'o awesome,Xavi for me the player of the season for Barca.

Even in the defense guys like caceres could get time,so add one left back if Sylvinho is gone but why spend that much money on Ribery i'll not do it.

hleb didn't got his chance with all the injuries,i think:confused:

he was only out for about two weeks in november or december, I don't remember exactly.
Anyways he had loads of chances but didn't convince a single time, he just couldn't adapt to our style. He play most of the time during the last three league games when barca already won the title and rested all the key players. In these games he really showed how poor he is at Barcelona when he doesn't have the likes of Iniesta or Xavi supporting him. Hleb is for sure a skillful player but he doesn't fit in in our team.

Guardiola has already said that he needs a bigger squad, the next year we'll play around 70 games and we have to remember that there will be the African Cup, so Yaya, Eto'O and Keita won't be able to play for Barça during that time and they're all key players.

About the signings we need better players than Hleb or Gudjohnsen, when they are playing the team suffers, Guardiola doesn't trust them so they both will be sold. We shouldn't forget that Pique, Puyol, Alves, Marquez, Iniesta and Henry have finished this season injured, they have played a lot of games, too many. Txiki has said Barça won't spend money madly (like R.Madrid or ManCity) and that the first sign of the summer will set the standard, by the way he also said that an unpopular transfer might be done (there are rumours concerning Eto'O).

I have no doubt that a world's top 10 player will sign for Barcelona, and if we have to sell Eto'O his substitute will be better (Forlán, Ibrahimovic, Villa...)

you will not get Ibrahimovoc inter would not sell yo9ur best player to you you know.

and really Forlan and Villa better than Eto'o,wowowo not for me,even in a century:rolleyes:

Eto'o is more versatile,he defend so well, can play on both wings, left or right, that's one of the biggets strenght of Barca cause they can all permutate, take Eto'o,put Forlan or Villa and i't not the same offense and you will not have Henry or Messi making that amount of goals without eto'o assists or his non -stop running!

really not,think about:rolleyes:

you will not get Ibrahimovoc inter would not sell yo9ur best player to you you know. He's said few hours ago that he's already won all that he could win in Italy, maybe he wants or he needs new emotions, maybe he wants to play for a big team which plays quality football, not rugby like Chelsea or no-football like Inter.

and really Forlan and Villa better than Eto'o,wowowo not for me,even in a century:rolleyes:
I can remember 3 years ago after winning the Champions League against Arsenal, when Barca had a 65 million bid for Ronaldinho and they rejected it, just two years later he had sold to Milan like a gift. Don't forget that Eto'O ends his contract next year, and really, Villa and Forlan are Top class strikers, in Spain they have a great reputation, Villa's considered better than Torres as example, and Forlan has reached the climb, you should see his goals.

Lots of transfer speculation are and will be going on during the next weeks but the unpopular one you're talking about may very likely be Eto'o. Well if we have to sell him (I still think we should keep him) both Villa and Forlán would be great but no Ibrahimovic - he's overrated.

I agree, both of them are at Sammy's level David Villa may already be even better than him, he would be my first choice if Eto'o leaves this summer. I mean he scored 28 times this season and did't have the support Eto'o had so he had a far more difficult time than Sammy. Plus he can also prepare goals and control a game - I'd really like to see him at Barcelona some time.

i think there's a good chance that Ibrahimovoc will move to Barca. Unfortunately i must say, because i hate arrogant players (and this could also be the reason Pep votes against it). But the thing to consider is, he has played in Ajax under the 4-3-3 system so he doesn't need to adapt. (henry anyone?).

another option COULD be, Ribery on the left and Henry as full blown striker.

Personally i would prefer Villa or Forlan though.

Any thoughts on defenders?

It's difficult to compare players even world class strikers like the aforementioned. Any striker will surely play even better with such a tremendous attacking power Barca offers, with players like Messi (and Henry?) beside and with Xavi and Iniesta behind him. But the barca style demands flexibility and a huge amount of practice. Every new striker has to learn to move within this wonderful web of short passes, to press and to recover possession, to change position, e.g. if Pep plays Messi as central striker like in Madrid or as central offensive midfielder like in Rome. I think that this will take a while especially if Txiki brings the notorious Ibrahimovic, who has to learn Spanish as well. Henry took a year to learn how to play with the Blaugrana, Hleb never did learn (and no Spanish too). I would regret if we only sell Eto'o for financial reasons. But there's still another point, the attitude of some of our older players may have changed by winning the treble. Some may think, they could repeat this success with less commitment. Therefore we need new hungry players. I am curious how Txiki and Pep will solve this puzzle.

PS: We get two "new" defenders: Milito will come back from injury (I hooope so) and Henrique from loan to Bayer Leverkusen. Maybe we find a good (first or second) left back, but that's enough.

It's getting crazy: "La Vanguardia" from Barcelona writes that Madrid wants Ibrahimovic, they will pay 40 m Euros (plus Sneijder) though they have not secured the Kaká purchase yet

I think we need a "La Liga" thread here were we can discuss such things seriously

Nothing new, Real Madrid always wants all the players that seems to be wanted for Barça. Actually they want all good players world-wide, like Man City, look, they tried to sign Mourinho, Ancelotti, Benitez, Wenger... as manager all of them said no, finally the one who'll say yes will be Pellegrini.

Look at ths website: Fichemos a Iniesta (http://www.fichemosainiesta.com) is so funny, isn't it? They are desperate.

Pep's notorious 'Gladiator-video':

YouTube - Barça Gladiators (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22Yebk50PpU)

Barcelona won the Champions League to complete a memorable treble, but only after watching a specially made video...

Pep Guardiola's specially-commissioned film to inspire his Barcelona players before the Champions League final has been released and it easy to see why they were uplifted.

Featuring every single one of the squad, the seven-minute video was produced by a friend of the Blaugrana coach at Catalan television channel TV3 in order to be played just before they took on Manchester United.

Mixing scenes and music from the Hollywood blockbuster 'Gladiator', the montage showed the Barca players at their best in order to help them visualise what they had to do in Rome last Wednesday.

After being called in from the pre-match warm-up, none of the squad knew what was going to happen, but many were in tears after seeing the film in the dressing room.

i think there's a good chance that Ibrahimovoc will move to Barca.

Any thoughts on defenders?too much stars is not good sometimes

I still think they should keep eto'o but Ibrahimovic no chance at all, keep hleb let him play some and sell in winter now his value is too low.

Milito will come back, marques at some point, caceres still there,Pique too,all barca need is a left back, but who???

Abidal will be the starter so who is good enough and cheapy enough to be back-up???

Apart of those who are often refered to (Pep above all, Messi, Iniesta, Xavi) I would propose:

Touré Yaya
the most wonderful anticipating Mr. Security who played a very fine full back in Rome and in London

Dani Alves
the world's best attacking right back, though I am glad it was Carles Puyol to play vs Rooney in Rome

Victor Valdés
he had his downs like the whole team, he's for sure no world class keeper, but he saved us when we needed it

absolutely true, and you could and extend this list on and on.

You're right Matt, you could name all players. But, the for the 'best of the rest" award i would name Pique. Wonderfull secure defending, and his energy is unbelievable. Also a few times per match he likes to drive forward, which confuses opponents.

As a person i like Alves (as i like all brazillians :)), but i don't know he should be the free-kick taker next season. His success rate is just below par. Also he is a bit nervous in the defending part of his duties.

Hi guys, first of all, I'd like to show you the funniest article about the Champions League Final

- Barça: Te quedan 6 para igualar al Madrid (http://www.defensacentral.com/mas_futbol/29524/2009/05/27/Bar%EF%BF%BDa-Te-quedan-6-para-igualar-al-Madrid)

If you can translate you'll be laughing for hours. Those merengues are scum.

By the way these are the hot rumours:

Eto'O: Ends his contract at the end of the next campaign and he wants his last good contract, he wants more money and Barça won't pay it. So there are an agreement with Txiki and Guardiola that they will try to sell him, and Barça will sign a Top striker, if Eto'O doesn't leave this summer, no reason to worry, he'll be a part of the squad.

Bruno Saltor Spanish right back 28 years old from Almeria, now free, he had an agreement with Betis to sign with them, but the Betis' relegation has broken it, Guardiola wants him. Could be the first transfer.

Luis Filipe Brazilian left back from Deportivo, I personally like him, is a fantastic player. Guardiola wants a left back and he seems to be the first option. 10-15M €. There are another options: Zhirkov, Srna...

Sylvinho He'll not be a part of the next year squad.

Bojan The rumours says that if Eto'O doesn't leave Barça and a top striker is signed, he'll be out on loan 1 season.

Left Winger Guardiola asked Txiki for a left winger, he needs a top class player who can compete against Henry and Iniesta. It seems that Ribery has an agreement with Barça, but the clubs not yet.

Hleb, Jorquera and Gudjohnsen Guardiola don't want them anymore.

Touré, Messi and Iniesta Will sign a new deal with Barça.
