in defense of the refs: most officiating crews get it right more than they get it wrong. there are exceptions of course--the sec and the pac10 have had some doozies of officiating madness the last few years.

but on the whole, the refs on the field do an excellent job. it seems a lot of tv and radio commentators are of the opinion that refs shouldn't call so many penalties.

case in point: yesterday's sun bowl. both the tv and radio guys were saying stuff like: "it's a bowl game, let 'em play" and "there's already been enough penalties, keep it in your pocket, ref!" fortunately, refs don't consider how many flags have been thrown, or other irrelevant info.

every one of those flags was legit. mostly false starts. the refs are trained, properly, to flag any violation of the Rules of the game that they see. if you're on the d-line and you see an opposing lineman flinch, you don't wan't your ref thinking, "well, i've called 3 false starts already this quarter, i'll let this one go for the sake of tv, and matt millen." if they see something wrong--i.e., illegal--they flag it. that's their job.

if there is anyone to be irritated at in such situations, it's the teams/players for being so god-danged undisciplined. :)

yeah! I understand we see the game through TV and it's different to view a play directly on the field! the refs have no replays unless when there's an official review or a challenge!

This happens at any given time.. it's like the stream is lost for a quarter of a second.. and it goes from fullscreen to the small player... also, I'm using VLC with Soapcast, and when this happens, the sync between the sopcast player and VLC is lost..

Still, CBS stretches games way more than ESPN with way more commercial breaks - allows you less of a feel for the atmosphere

I'm not a racing guy at all, but at least in most racing tours (say, Formula 1) you got some variation because of curves, obstacles, shapes of the course - in cycling you even have a lot of strategic considerations
But 500 laps of a simple oval course? How much more monotonous can it get???

But then again, 99% of Europeans (including the ones I explained the game to) can't understand what I love about football

I didn't expect OSU to contain the high-powered Ducks offense as much as they did,
but I did think that OSU would win, because all in all the ORE offense is great while the OSU offense is good, but the OSU defense is good while the ORE defense is average
So, the overall advantage won - unfortunately

Well it was a great game for 3 1/2 qtrs anyway. Tough loss for Ducks but as Herb said, ... They return most starters and are favored to win Pac-10. With OSU returning most as welll, we may have a rematch for BCS next year. I hope hendrg had fun, too. Going to a game with your Dad is the best whether your team wins or loses.

Squashing them like BUGS! Our best game of the year perhaps.... FSU game was a beatdown as well. I think the SEC game, if you can believe it was a bit of letdown after all the pagentry of Tebow's last game at Florida Field.... plus losing Dunlap... Spikes and Black being nicked up.

It also goes to show how good Bama's D-line is. I forget the NTackle's name, but he is monster 2 feet wide!
