Ok Folks (Share, Tokar, NESN, TG etc)

I am trying to dummy down the MLB stream for my connection as the 400kbps stream is stopping and stuttering when I try to stream it thru sopcast. I was told I could possibly lower the bitrate by reencoding it thru VLC player, but there are SO many settings my head is spinning, plus I'm like THE dumbest computer tech in the world. (or so says my best friend) Can anyone help? The source is MLB.tv streams, and I would like to lower them to like 250 or so (CBC level stream) in order to smooth them out for streaming on my connection. Can anyone help?

Let me look around, see if i can find something...

edit:
Well, the following directions should do it:

Find your network stream address.
Go into VLC, click CTRL-N (to open a network stream).
Click the circle of the appropriate protocol (HTTP, RTSP, etc.).
Enter in the stream address in the box for that protocol.
Check off Stream/Save below Advanced options.
Click Settings
Check off HTTP, leave the port alone (unless you need to forward it to a different port).
Check ASF
Check video codec
Check audio codec
Choose WMV2 video codec
Choose MP3 audio codec
Click OK
Click OK

VLC should now be streaming a stream to a local stream for your disposal. I tested reencoding a homemade WME stream into a VLC stream. It worked but I couldnt get either VLC or WMP to show an image, I only could get audio.

ok i give it a try, don't look how i'm writing i know i make mistakes

ok look at tokars setup ,just put in the http adresfield 127.0.0.1 (local adres)try it with a file to set it up if it works you stop the vlc player (the settings remain if you don't close it)

now just open file-open network stream-just put the link in http field and click ok(you know you must be quick ;) ) now if everything is alright vlc is playing it otherwise it stops and you know you where to slow

but if vlc is playing it , just startup sopcast and put in the adresfield http://127.0.0.1:1234 your channelnumber and name and start streaming

you always can try different codecs if this is working just start with div3 or wmv2 at a bitrate of 192 and audio mp4a at 8 kilobit

have fun ;)

I think the first and most important step is to try and get the MLB stream to play in VLC (you probably have already done this, but I just wanted to be sure). To do this you must be quick. Start the stream in Media Player, right click...properties...copy and paste into vlc.

If you get it playing then the rest is just a matter of typing the right stuff into VLC and sopcast.

Of course now Sopcast is ****ed up for me most of the time, and for many others. :( I am considering switching to TVants. So here is the question.....

Got the stream being reencoded in VLC player as instructed, but entering http://127.0.0.1:1234 does NOT work as a TVants URL. :( How can I tell TVants to pick up my VLC encoded stream? I also tried just the numbers & using TVants:// preceeding the numbers. Nothing works. :( I'm stumped again.
