Draft pick?

Hello,

I really love basketball, but this is the first year I've been following the NBA. I think I 'joined' like 5 months ago.

So this is also my first Draft thing (don't know the exact name), but I don't know what's going to happen..

Does anybody have a good, quick explanation or can someone explain it to me real simple?

You should watch college basketball! :D It's better...kinda.

Basically, the teams with the crappiest record choose first. They choose potential NBA superstars from college or from international leagues.

The consensus #1 pick will be a guy named John Wall, picked by the Wizards. He is pretty much a Derrick Rose clone.

Some top 10 guys following Wall include Evan Turner (bradon roy type), Derrick Favors (Amare Stoudemire-ish), Greg Monroe (chris bosh-ish), Demarcus Cousins (kind of like a dejuan blair), Al-foroq maninibanini (6"9, very athletic, and I don't know how to spell his name), Wesley Johnson (joe johnson-ish but not as good with shooting), Cole Aldrich (joel pryzbilla with more offense), and that's all the guys I can name on the top of my head.

_Draft Order___

1 Washington
2 Philadelphia
3 New Jersey
4 Minnesota
5 Sacramento
6 Golden State
7 Detroit
8 LA Clippers
9 Utah
10 Indiana

Yeah the Cavs weren't good, and they picked James with the #1 pick I believe.

As for free agents, they aren't really "picked"
They are "free" to sign with whatever team they wish to (or whichever team pays them the most money ;))
Teams will try to influence where certain free agents end up, but in the end, it is up to the player as to where they want to go.

That's the difference between being drafted and being a free agent. You don't choose who you get drafted by. But you do know (if you are a very good player) that when you declare for the draft that you will likely be chosen by a bad team.

So do free agents pick where they go AFTER the draft pick or BEFORE? Or isn't that important?

free agency begins July 1st

At draft time some teams with picks who do not need youngs players will try some trades involving theirs picks or players of the roster they do not want anymore to get players they target on other teams!!!

Or they will make trades to get a better draft place,or to lose their draft places.....a lot of scenarii possible!!!!!

So the draft influences also the free agency cause it gives the direction what teams plan to do in summer,rebuild roster for the years to come or attack the next season with big goals,so free agents look at teams where they can play for money or for titles,or at least for opportunities!!!

You have two types of free agent........restricted his old team can match any contract offer he will get if they want to do so!

........unrestricted he does or goes where he wants!



So now you fit for the league i think or for your new job employment as nba draft and free agency analyst!;)
