View Full Version : Still connecting but channel seems to be offline
Hi
I've been using StreamTorrent on one machine for a few months now and been loving it. I just got a new laptop and I'm now having trouble connecting. I downloaded the latest version (build 077 i think) and tried the test stream (BBC 1). I let it load for about 15 mins but I still get the red X icon on the system tray and StreamTorrent says "still connecting but channel appears to be offline. I tried several other channels but no luck. I read the forum posts, including one about replacing the streamtorrent folder in C:\User\Appdat\Roaming. I have no AV or Firewall. I know it's not the router or modem because those worked fine with the old machine. I am using Win7 x64. Any ideas?
Thanks for the help

I am also having the SAME EXACT problem. I am on win7 x64 as well. I know I opened up the ports, I tested them and they are definitely open, I shut down my Norton and I am still sitting there with the red x just like you. I also replaced the files in the streamtorrent folder.
Is this a win7 x64 issue?

If you've got the red x, then it's not the files, but most likely Windows firewall blocking it. I've got the same OS & it's working fine with Stream Torrent Media Player allowed in the exceptions list.

Interestingly enough, I took your advice and even though it said "Your windows firewall is being managed by another program" it really wasn't. I had an exception in Norton, but it was still getting blocked. I went into the services and had to manually shut down windows firewall to allow StreamTorrent to get through. Hope that helps anyone who is going through the same thing I did.
Thank for the help. My problem was resolved as well. I jut let StreamTorrent keep attempting to connect for about 30-40 minutes and now it works flawlessly. Connecting to a channel only take a couple minutes now. Guess the first load took forever for some reason.
...Connecting to a channel only take a couple minutes now. Guess the first load took forever for some reason.this is because ST is a "trackerless" peer-to-peer system. when you first use it, it has to find the first available peers by a kind of brute-force method which can take quite a while. once you pick up some up-to-date valid peers, it will connect to these peers first, giving positive results much quicker.
glad people are getting it working:)
I am running win 7 64bit, I have turned windows firewall off, only BBC2 alternate link is working for me right now.

If one works, they all should work unless they are actually offline when you are trying them. Especially if your upload & download speeds meet or exceed the rated bitrate of the stream. http://www.speedtest.net

I often get this message (still connecting but... blah, blah, blah). If I shut off the player, go to the channels screen, delete the channel from the list (it must be stopped, not stopping), then click on the link, it works every time. Hope this helps.
Hello there
What fixed the problem for me was to run streamtorrent.exe as admin under Windows 8 x64. Simply rightclick the exe file and select "Run as administrator", the firewall will ask if you allow it, do so and enjoy the streams :)

yes, the portable version is a good alternative that doesn't suffer from the "red X" (not connected) issue.
