Once downloaded run the executable to begin the installation procedure for Realplayer 10.

Realplayer can be a right pain and if your not careful it can totally overswamp your system.

If you don't want it to do that, follow my installation guide.

After you've agreed to the license agreement, you'll get the following screen:

Like in the image above, take the ticks away from the bottom two options. If you don't want a desktop shortcut or quicklaunch icon, you can take the other two ticks away as well.

    Click next.

Realplayer will begin it's installation process.

After Realplayer finishing installing you'll be presented with the following screen:

Like in the above picture i recommend you put the dot in the bottom option, next to 'select media types for Realplayer from a list'

    Click next.

You'll then be presented with the following screen:

I recommend you to click the 'deselect all' button.

And then scroll down to the RealAudio and RealVideo section, like in the picture above, and only put ticks in those types of media forms.

    Click finish.

It's important Realplayer doesn't attempt to take over streams such as wmv and asf files because streaming applications like ppstream will fail to work.

On the next screen you will be asked if you want to register.

Just click cancel, followed by exit.

    Realplayer will launch.

Another annoying Realplayer feature is the Message Centre, every time you turn on your PC or every few minutes, Realplayer's message centre will give you pointless alerts that your not intrested in.

To turn it off, do the following:

With realplayer launched, click the tools menu and then preferences, like in the image below:

You will then be presented with a screen like the below:

Like in the image above, choose the message center option on the left, and then click the configure message center button on the right.

Another window will popup like below:

Like in the image above, take the tick away from al the boxes. and then click OK.

Click OK or on the x to close any other open windows, until you return to the main Realplayer interface.

And that's realplayer set up in it's least annoying form.

Once you have gone through all the downloading part Visit the BBC's five live schdule to find out if they are covering the match you are watching by clicking Here
    BBC Scotland Shedule
    BBC London Shedule

There are Many BBC Sport Stations that cover Premier league matches
    Which are
    BBC 5 Live

    5 LIVE SPORT EXTRA

    BBC London

    BBC Scotland

    BBC Merseyside

    BBC Birmingham

The Coverage will be 3-4-5 minutes ahead of the stream you are watching, you can PAUSE the Audio stream AKA Kick offs, Corner, Yellow card, Subsitution and let the Stream you are watching catch up

    Simple as that :D

........As to BBC Availble now internationly This is availble to every-one :D

USING BBC RADIO FIVE LIVE STREAMS FROM OUTSIDE THE UK

When installed, open up RealPlayer. You will see this:

Click on Tools then Preferences. If Tools is not there, it means your player is shrunken in size, and you need to extend it, or click on the two right facing arrows, next to View.

A new window will open up. On the list on the left, click on Proxy. If you cannot see it, click the Plus icon (+) next to Connection and you will see it. Once Proxy is highlighted, click on Change Settings... in the bottom right of your screen. It must be the lower one, as RealPlayer has it's own web browser installed also, which the top one is for that.

Another window will open up. Under HTTP Proxy, select Use Proxy. This will allow you to enter information in the adjacent boxes.

The two boxes represent the IP address (Internet Protocol) and Port Number. Once you have inputted the IP address and Port Number, when you connect to the internet (this is only with RealPlayer streams only) your PC will virtually think it is where the IP address is located. If the computer with this IP address is located in London, your PC will think it is in London also. Lesson over.

Finding working proxies are not that hard, but occasionally they do switch off, sometimes for a short while, sometimes forever, so the list of proxies will never be correct. The full proxy will be listed as four sets of digits, spaced with a dot (.). After this, there will be a colon (:) which seperates the Port Number.

Below is the list of proxies...

    http://www.samair.ru/proxy

    look for UK proxies.

Please make sure you choose a random one. This list will only be updated if you tell me if they work or not.

When putting these into the IP address and Port Number boxes, please seperate where the colon is. For example, the first, put 195.212.15.100 in IP address, and 80 in Port Number. I hope this helps.

And that's realplayer set up in it's least annoying form.

USING THE BBC RADIO FIVE LIVE SITE AND STREAMS

Visit the BBC's five live schdule to find out what matches they are covering, by clicking here

If the match you want to watch is also covered by online BBC radio then you can mute media player sound and use the radio commentary from radio five live.

There are two Five Live radio streams. Five Live and Five Live Sports Extra so make sure you get the right one.

To easily launch the radio streams you can click on the following links:

    Five Live Stream in Realplayer

Five Live Sports Extra Stream in Realplayer

The first problem we have is that Five Live's coverage will be about 3/4 minutes ahead of what we're seeing via our tv streaming applications, so how do we get it all timed together....

SYCHRONISING RADIO FIVE LIVE COMMENTARY WITH P2P APPLICATION STREAMS

Possibly the only good thing that exists about Realplayer is it's ability to pause live streams.

So, let's say we have radio five live streaming along with a stream from PPlive.

On radio five the match is about to kick off, but the pplive stream is still showing adverts.

The best thing to do is listen for something that will easily be recognisable when you see the coverage on the pplive stream.

So let's say for example we hear the ref blow his whistle to kick off the match.

Press the pause button on Realplayer like in the below picture:

When the PPlive coverage catches up, and the match kicks off, press the pause button on Realplayer 10 again, and you should have English commentary in parrallel with your Chinese television stream.

If it drops out of synch, again just look for an easy to notice piece of action: 'throwin to be taken by clapham half way into the Newcastle half on this nearside' and thing's like that.

    Easy Peasy.

USING BBC RADIO FIVE LIVE STREAMS FROM OUTSIDE THE UK

Remember that you can use RealAlternative instead of very poor Realplayer. RealAlternative works for me good with all commentarys etc. and its free. You can download it from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm

What we need is a p2p of BBC Radio Five Live Sports Extra.
Surely someone within the UK could share the digital stream across a p2p network? I'm surprised this hasn't been done yet. And it wouldn't take much bandwith, unlike with TV broadcasts.
Is there any hope? I've tried the proxy approach to the book many many times but to no avail.

    Anyone?
It would be great to be able to listen to Test Match Special on BBC Five Live Sports Extra/Radio 4 LW.
I'm fed up with not being able to listen to it just cos I'm outside the UK.

    Cheers.

Since I discovered sports streaming back in 2005 I have always used Realplayer to sync up Radio 5 live whenever they are covering the same game I am watching. I even do this when the stream has English commentary to keep up to date on other matches and as a backup in case the stream fails.

From today, if you load up any Realplayer stream from the BBC you get this message 'From the end of May, the BBC will no longer be supporting Real streaming. Please use the iPlayer'. The iPlayer has no pause button!

Does anyone know of another way to stream 5live allowing you to pause the stream? The BBC do have a 3GPP stream of 5live which Realplayer can pause, but I have been playing with it just now and the stream is very unreliable and can take a whole minute to load. Is there even a way to play a radio into the audio port of your PC and get that to play on delay?

Maybe this is not the most elegant way, but it's something.

Take the BBC 5 Live link in the txt-file and open it with VLC, should be working without any trouble.
Then press record, wait a few seconds (here VLC takes some time to let the record-file appear), and now you can mute the original stream while it still records, and open the recorded file again with VLC.
You may have to change your settings so that VLC is allowed two instances at once.

Pausing the stream the "usual" way in VLC (open the url, play, then hit the pause button) resulted only in a complete stop for me, playing the url in WMP works, but the pause button is inactive.

Interesting idea, I'll try that (my current version of VLC doesn't have a record button so I'll have to update it first). Is that URL for 5live constant or does it ever change? Do you also have one for Sportsextra? (Or could you let me know how you got it so I don't have to beg for help every time I want a new station!)

    Thanks a lot.

To my knowledge, the url is constant, but of course, it might change at some point.

    Do you know screamer-radio?
It's a free radio player, and it has 5 live and also sportsextra listed in it's presets.
But you don't have to install it, simply go to their site, under "radio directory" you'll find the links
(although - just checked - it seems these are not the actual links in the presets list of the player)...

So...here you go (and feel free to ask for other stations, I try my best ).

Thanks so much. I have got your method to work, which is a good thing, although as you say it lacks some elegance!

It's a shame because I also enjoyed listening to music stations using this method, being able to pause if I have to go and do something, or just listen to a song again if I hear one I really like. It seems such a simple thing - to save the data while streaming it and allowing the player to seek back over the saved audio. Is there really no player that can do this?
