Some correction on the screamer radio directory list: different address (e.g. for Sports Extra) listed on the site, but still - they work in VLC.

Interesting question, but the immediate question popping up for me is: wouldn't that mean the player actually has to save the stream in some form?
Screamer for example also has a record button, and well, of course, after recording you can go back and forth as you like. But usually the stream isn't saved, right? It's just played.

Just took a BBC 1 TV stream (you can find that in the UKTV thread in the Live TV section here), opened it with VLC, paused, and that strangely works. No jumps or the like, no recording necessary.
If that works on TV, it SHOULD work on radio as well. Could be a question of what the stream is made of or how it is streamed (or the protocol).

A quick note on VLC's record button: this is not shown standardly, you must check the "advanced controls" under "view" to get it.

No, that's not a direct link. Sorry, should have mentioned that...
    You got WMP installed, right?
Copy the link, open WMP, strg/ctrl+u, paste the link, enjoy.

To my knowledge, the url is constant, but of course, it might change at some point.

    Do you know screamer-radio?
It's a free radio player, and it has 5 live and also sportsextra listed in it's presets.
But you don't have to install it, simply go to their site, under "radio directory" you'll find the links
(although - just checked - it seems these are not the actual links in the presets list of the player)...

So...here you go (and feel free to ask for other stations, I try my best ).

    Attached Files

    * File Type: txt BBC 5 live Sports Extra.txt (157 Bytes, 4 views)

do you have the 5 live link

Thanks for all the advice Wired. I tried this for the first time today for the Community Shield and it worked very well. I have also used Screamer Radio loads in the past couple of months, I love it!

    Cool weeeeeee!

thank you guys, the VLC record method works a treat for me. I don't get the option to save the stream, but it is placed by default in my documents->my music

i was in tears when bbc stopped the .ram streams, but am happy again now thanks to this workaround

hmm. it seems this no longer works:

    mms://wmlive.bbc.net.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio5/radio5_bb_live_int_eq1_sl0?BBC-UID=740b7f03c1e5f956c62765b97159d7526910a347a020f1 44b49ff8c19c3a5c5d&SSO2-UID=

where can i find the updated mms stream? (which works with VLC so I can record/pause)

    found this - mms://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio5/radio5_bb_live_eq1_sl0#slim:noscan=1

The stream you posted still works fine here in VLC, maybe it was just down temporarily...?!

These are the links I've got for BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra,
    all working brilliantly on VLC.

    Note:
The http-links are GET files; go to the stream properties (for VLC: show playlist, right click on the stream, information, location),
and you'll see the actual mms-address.

I've given up with this. It's nice in theory but I always find that VLC loses the connection to 5live every 15 minutes and when it does you have to resync every time. Don't you find the same thing happens, Wired?

Which of those links do you use most often? I've been using http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/live/live.asx
