pause/resume stream in vlc

Hi all,i am currently this problem with sopcast.when i tried to pause a stream in vlc player so as to sync with another channel using their english commentary.when i press resume the stream will stutter and lag..when i try to pause and resume in wmp it works prefect..
anyone knows the solution on how to pause and resume stream in vlc so that the stream will not stutter?
