Default Your PC got infected, now what?! (Virus, Trojan, Keylogger)

To make sure this doesnt happen, you should protect yourself, I personally use Commodo as its Antivirus and Firewall in one

Firewall AntiVirus Software Free Download from Comodo

but NOD32 and Kaparsky seem to be good options too.
Make sure to update your definition file once a day and do a virus scan once a week.

You should treat your PC like your house, dont leave it unlocked, thats why there are a few things I use to secure my PC.

    PeerGuardian 2
    SpyBot Search & Destroy
    AdAware

Once you get infected you might want to let someone else look over your system, the best way to summarize what might be on there is using Hijackthis:

    HijackThis

I also clean my PC on a regular basis using:

    CCleaner
    Defraggler

You can also use Combofix to make your PC work again, but take a close look at the link first before you do this.

    ComboFix

I hope this helps a few people. Feel free to add your thoughts.

    Thumbs up Nice post

Quite a nice list. I will definitely point people in this direction the next time they ask me "thanks for getting rid of the infection, now what can I do to prevent another one?"

    My $.02:
Take a look at this report. Programs listed towards the top and right detected the most viruses. The best overall protection that I've found (and the report agrees with me) is by G-Data, a company out in Deutschland. I think it also won the top spot in PC World's annual review of antimalware programs. Something to consider if someone out there is dissatisfied with their current program.

If ever a password is needed in any of my or other users uploads try myp2p, Myp2p or wiziwig.

I'am used to compare, and think that AV-Comparatives - Independent Tests of Anti-Virus Software - Main-Tests is a sufficiently independent site for getting an accurate comparison.

Linux really is the answer to all your computer problems isn't it? I've been a happy user for almost 3 years now. (Fortunately all my friends still use Windows and when they get a virus...$$$ )

AVG and Avast do make antivirus for Linux (plus the opensource ClamAV) but I don't see any real reason to use it. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

What I've noticed with Streamtorrent and wine is while Streamtorrent installs fine it cannot connect to the Internet at all. (I think there is a guide somewhere around on Streamtorrent + Linux but whoever wrote it didn't bother to check whether it actually worked or not.)

The worst part is that there isn't a clear solution since other internet-based applications - WMP, Internet Explo(it)er, TVUPlayer - work fine. Obviously some network component is missing (and I've installed all the network stuff from winetricks, still nothing) but I can't figure out what it is. Probably no one can until the program is either open-sourced or some proper documentation is written.

Personally id use PC Tools - Spyware Doctor, it detects most infections and buy it or 'get' a key and you can remove all infections very fast

Also, this has not long been released, so get it while its free

    Comodo Dragon Internet Browser

    Comodo Dragon Internet Browser
An internet browser based on Chromium (What Google Chrome is based on), and its very secure

    Comodo Dragon Security:

    * Has privacy enhancements that surpass those in Chromium's technology
    * Has Domain Validation technology that identifies and segregates superior SSL certificates from inferior ones
    * Stops cookies and other Web spies
    * Prevents all Browser download tracking to ensure your privacy
Runs on Vista, XP, and Windows 7
Im considering swapping to it from Firefox
You can also transfer all your data over from Firefox, Opera, or Internet Explorer

I suspect this browser will become better as time goes on and will be very secure

@JP: Just tested it now and it works really good!

I was a bit afraid it might be heavy on the ressources, but compared to my overloaded firefox its really not.

Does this Comodo have automatic tabbed browsing?
I use Deepnet browser because it is the only browser I've found that has this feature. It is also faster than any other browser I've tried and is very light on my p.c.
However, Deepnet hasn't updated since April 2009 and has minor difficulties with the latest Adobe Flash player amongst other small irritations.
But automatic tabbed browsing is unmissable for me.

This new Comodo Dragon browser is built on Chromium (Same as google Chrome)
So should be light on resources and fast, and id guess it has tabbed browsing, check the comodo page for more info or download it and give it a try
