Default So, you want to stream mlb games and help our community thrive? Come on in...

    ...updated 04.22.2011

    Welcome

First of all, thank you for your interest in streaming mlb games! The more the merrier!

This post is intended to be a catch all for all of those who, like myself, love watching games online with the crowd here in the MLB section at Myp2p and want to give back to our community by streaming games from their hometown team or otherwise.

Our community overwhelmingly uses Stream Torrent for its Quality, Ease of Use and Low Bandwidth Requirements.

To get started streaming you will want to check out the following links:

    Using A TV Capture (Tuner)Card
Broadcast your own channel (Guide + Info)

Guide I used to setup my Windows Media Encoder for a Tuner that you are told to use in the STREAMER guide:

    http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/1...-Media-Encoder

Update: Should still be WME9 here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Guide to screen capture streaming from the Web with WME:

    http://forum.wiziwig.eu/threads/20156

Update: Google vhscrcap no watermark or check this out: http://multiboxing.com/forums/f2/res...mark-3030.html

Once the stream is created in WME, then you need to get it into streamTorrent. This well written Guide and the Notice tell you how:

[Guide] Broadcasting on StreamTorrent. ...and... Important notice to Streamers

Choosing your method of Capture and Gear you need to get started.

You can screen capture mlb.tv and broadcast that through Stream Torrent or capture through a Tuner Card.

There are 2 ways to capture tv feeds to your pc with a tuner, the USB tuner and the card tuner.

USB tuners are portable, cheaper cost, easier to break and take up room outside of your machine.

Card tuners and not portable, more expensive, harder to break and take up room inside of your machine.

Here are some good examples of what you might buy:

    USB tuner card
    Internal PCI express Card

To help us to help you,
post the following information in one reply to this thread (or create your own) so we can better work with you:

Go to http://www.speedtest.net and get your upload and download speeds.

Post the specs of your PC:

CPU, RAM, Method of Capture i.e. USB tuner, Card Tuner, Screen Capture from the Web.

(From Mac) : To be able stream on P2P, you need to have upload bandwidth at least 3 times your stream bitrate. i.e For a 150k stream, your upload should be at least 450k

    Notes from FT

Be sure to click the Free Port button dozens of times until it gets past 1400 or manually enter a number between 20001 and 64999. Do NOT use default ports 1080 or 8080. This is very important as your new stream needs a seperate distinct port.
You'll select this option when you're setting up WME. It's in "output". Or... "Broadcasting Options" in the Wizard.
(fyi... the port # determines the stream's web address. Anything else you might change will not.)

ok so if it's a 141k stream... then...
You'll select this option in "compression". Or... "encoding options" in the Wizard.
Select scroll menu for "video" > Multiple Bit Rate
Select scroll menu for "audio" > Multiple Bit Rate
    uncheck 282k... Select 148k

    for a 240k stream...
Select scroll menu for "video" > VHS Quality
Select scroll menu for "audio" > Multiple Bit Rate
    uncheck 300k... Select 244k.

    for a 300k or 400k stream...
Select scroll menu for "video" > VHS Quality
Select scroll menu for "audio" > CD Quality
Select 300k... or Select 400k.. but not both.

then you can keep going to enter your stream name, description, etc.
this can always be editted or updated at anytime(while not streaming).

My advice is to save the settings asap. Go to file > save as > (I use stream name/bit rate)
You can save to your desktop for easy startup every day.
After you setup stream torrent, it will then be just 2 clicks to a flowing stream. Pretty easy, right!?

    Thanks:

For those with Vista or W7 audio source issues: Stereo mix is still there, but no longer is enabled by default. Look here for a way to "fix" that: http://forum.wiziwig.eu/threads/3572...507#post942507

Here's a FYI on the stereo mix issue not solved by my post above:

New update...after extensive googling, this is the problem.

    http://audioeditingtools.com/rec_speaker_output.htm

This is pretty much a summary of it...

    Recording "speaker output"...
    No "Stereo Mix" option?

What' the deal here? Many (particularly newer Vista & 7 laptop computers) no longer support recording iNet Radio broadcasts and "streaming audio". They offer no option to select "Stereo Mix (speaker output)" as the record source.

Why is this? Well... you'll have an awful time getting computer manufactures/ vendors to admit this but the answer is that they have been pressured by the RIAA to disable this feature (so that folks can't get fair use out of their system). Their thinking is that folks may use it to illegally (I personally consider this action "fair use" but your mileage may vary) record sound.

Anyway, the work around on the bottom of that page is the one i will use, simply running a 3.5mm stereo audio cable from line out to line in to trick the computer.
That didnt work either...but i finally found a way to do it after many efforts...downloading the latest driver for my motherboard audio chipset (VIA) gave me a control panel, Stereo Mix for recording is finally enabled, works perfectly.

Heres a real crappy screen cap that I did just now of how I set up my screen cap. Hope it helps mate... Ideally you want to watch it at '1080p' so you can see settings etc. You probably have capture optimization enabled on vhscrp which is giving you the jittery frames in WME

LOL, just found it. That's the one I sort of was describing the steps for him from memory. I think the only thing that doesn't apply much any more is the 320X240 thing as most sources are now 16:9, so I just have them tick same as input to get them started.

for anyone having trouble with getting the "stereo mix" enabled/option in windows XP, here is the solution I used this afternoon and worked like a charm. you must be familiar with editing your registry (it isn't as scary as it sounds I promise)

make sure you have the latest drivers for your audio installed, and then:

edit to note: the \0017\ may vary on your system it could be anything between 0000-00xx just look for the number that has the expandable menu and then has settings as another folder.

click on start, run, type regedit

    go to the following path:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControl\
    Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0017\Settings\filter\rear]

Note: the path 0017 is for M1210 diffrent dell PC or Laptop may in diffrent path. Choose from 0000 to 00xx....or find the path filter\rear

In rear add two new binary value as follow 1 & 2, and modify the value of 3 & 4:

    1 DigitalInputMonitor = hex:01 (Add Binary Value)
    2 DigitalStereoMix = hex:01 (Add Binary Value)

    3 MasterControlsIndependentMixerInputs = hex:00 (Change 01 to 00)
    4 EnableInputMonitor = hex:01 (Change 00 to 01)

Then Restart Your Computer....Stereo Mix is now enable....

You Can Now Record Streaming Audio from Internet! & Audacity is now supported!

i was able to get a stream going on stream torent, thanks to ur guides, however my cpu usage always reaches very high levels in WME9 while broadcasting.

therefore, my streams are almost unwatchable, or highly laggy, getting a maximum 10-15 fps. I've tried several different stream rates, etc. What the hell do i do to fix this?

    i have 1 gb of ram, pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz, 2.99GHz
    and radeon hd5450

I think you need to upgrade your RAM. Check RAM usage using Task Manager when you are running WME9

you don't say what resolution/video size you are using on the encoder. if you are using a "high" resolution setting, try lowering the size to something smaller: say, 480x270 for 16:9 widescreen or 320x240 for 4:3.

your hardware sounds a lot better than what i use for streaming hockey on ST with WME9. i'm using AMD 1.8GHz with less than 1GB RAM, and an ATI capture card that has "Copyright 1999" printed on it! when i try to stream at full-size, i.e. 640x480, i have the same problem: CPU goes straight to 100% and can't keep up! when i drop the size a bit--say, 440x330--the CPU drops down to 80-90% and my frame-rate stabilizes.

another thing you can try, and i'm not sure if this will help the CPU or not, is to lower the frame-rate. i think the default in WME is 30 fps, which is overkill for an internet stream. i would recommend 20-24 fps. (for reference, N. American television is 29.97 fps, Europe is 25 fps, and hollywood films are/were 24 fps. so i feel anything above 24 is kind of wasted.)

    good luck.

bjfan, you can also go to Tools>Options, then click on the Performance tab and check to see where the "When Broadcasting" slider is set at. By default it's at the first tick mark from the left. You might want to try and see if moving that slider all the way over to Better Performance would help. But like the mods here have already said, it matters also what your output resolution and FPS is. Try lowering those as well. It takes a lot of trial and error, tweaking settings and whatnot to find the right balance. Good luck.
