Frank Barson (right) of Aston Villa shaking hands with Billy Flint (Notts County)

Barson is regarded as the hardest man in football. Stories about him include:

He was once banned for 7 months after a violent foul against Fulham.
He once brought a gun into contract negotiations.
He was made captain of Aston Villa because he wanted to and no one dared to argue with him.
He was sent a good luck message before a game from two criminals facing the death penalty.
He was booked before the 1920 FA cup final.
He scored a header from 30 yards .
He was sent off in his final professional appearance.

Nice thread. Some great pics. My favs are Dennis Law against Rapid Vienna in 1969, and the Groundsman at Leicester in 1967.. Brilliant.

Leeds vs Sunderland, FA Cup replay, March 1967. It was heaving in there! As a 13 year old, I was scared sh*tless, especially when a crush barrier collapsed not far from where I was.
48000 official crowd, but thousands more climbed the walls to get in.

Dunno why that came out so small? Try again:
