Default Newcastle v Liverpool [Premier League]

Venue: St James' Park, Sunday 1.30pm
    Tickets: Sold out
Last season: Newcastle 3 Liverpool 1
    Referee: Martin Atkinson
    This season's matches: 23 Y74, R7, 3.52 cards per game
    Odds: Newcastle 17-8 Liverpool 6-4 Draw 12-5
    Coverage: http://www.wiziwig.tv/broadcast.php?...19&part=sports

Andy Carroll returns to Tyneside for the first time following his £35m move in January last year. Charlie Adam looks likely to miss the rest of Liverpool's season after picking up a knee injury against QPR last week, while Craig Bellamy, Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson are also doubtful. Newcastle's captain, Fabricio Coloccini, is a definite absentee, with James Perch expected to replace the Argentinian in central defence. Papiss Cissé is set to start in attack despite appearing to pick up a knock at West Bromwich Albion last Sunday.

    TEAM NEWS

Newcastle will be without captain Fabricio Coloccini, who tore his hamstring last weekend.
But Ryan Taylor is fit after a calf injury while Cheick Tiote has recovered from a hamstring problem.

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam misses out with a knee problem, which will be assessed in the next fortnight.
Defenders Glen Johnson (calf), Martin Kelly (ankle) and Daniel Agger (rib) could all return, while Maxi Rodriguez has recovered from illness

No confidence in the 'pool getting a result today. I suppose it depends on which Liverpool turns up (providing they get off the bus). Kenny has been hinting that they may adopt a more pragmatic attitude at the expense of playing "the Liverpool way". What this involves god only knows. Will it be the dreaded long ball to Carroll or possibly a more physical approach to stop the opponents playing? On the plus side at least Adam won't be playing.

Unfortunately this probably means Hendo will

I also have zero confidence in our ability to do anything other than lose. I was at Anfield last Saturday and the performance was absolutely pathetic. Without a significant change of personnel, I cannot see this side progressing. They are missing 3 or 4 quality players

Craig Bellamy returns to the Liverpool starting XI for today's clash with Newcastle United.

The Wales forward figures for the first time since the Reds' trip to Sunderland on March 10 following injury.

There are also starts for Andy Carroll and Jonjo Shelvey at the Sports Direct Arena as Kenny Dalglish makes three changes.

Liverpool: Reina, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Enrique, Gerrard, Spearing, Shelvey, Bellamy, Carroll, Suarez.

Subs: Doni, Aurelio, Maxi, Henderson, Coates, Kuyt, Downing.

Newcastle United: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Perch, Gutierrez; Guthrie, Tiote, Cabaye; Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba. Subs: Elliot, Ferguson, Santon, Gosling, R.Taylor, Vuckic, Ameobi.

Liverpool: Reina; Flanagan Carragher, Skrtel, Enrique; Gerrard, Spearing, Shelvey; Bellamy, Carroll, Suarez. Subs: Doni, Aurelio, Maxi, Henderson, Coates, Kuyt, Downing.

Quite an attacking lineup for the Reds

Most people will have, justifiably, no confidence in Liverpool. The performances of late have been nothing short of diabolical. That said, interesting to see that of the summer signings (Adam, Enrique, Downing and Henderson), only Enrique plays. Frankly, he even he should be left out. He hasn't earned a shirt, but he keeps getting starts.

On the plus side, Dalglish has stuck with Flanagan, brought back Bellamy after an injury, started Carroll again after not starting him in the last couple of games and brought in Shelvey. Problem is, it took diabolical performances for him to bring Shelvey in and that's poor management. Sterling should be on the bench today and starting next week's game. So, still problems with Dalglish's management and selection.

Above all else, it is low-energy performances and bad attitudes that have cost Liverpool. With a more positive attitude and a high-energy performance, Liverpool would be in the top 4. I have no doubt about that at all. That's where Dalglish needs to show some management.

Big chance for Skrtel, heads over. Andy Carroll blatantly dives for a penalty, deserved yellow. He should've carried on after rounding Krul.

    my word!

what a return for Andy Carroll

funny thing you would expect a striker to score there but he opts for a dive instead

very suprised myself the 10mins he was on in the wigan game he was very lively and he is a speedy guy that is for sure. Cannot see the logic give the kid a game and let him gain the confidence in playing in he first team.
