Rather underated bunch of guys in my opinion. They made some great music, and Made in Japan was perhaps in every rockers album collection. They just didn't have that something for me though. That something that AC/DC and Led Zeppelin had.

But yeah, sad news that time and age creeps up on these old monsters of rock

I wasn't a great Purple fan but absolutely love Highway Star. Jon was indeed a keyboard legend.

I loaded Machine Head onto my iPod at the weekend, and listening to it again bought some great memories back to me, one of my favorite all time
albums. Even my 6 year old son said he liked it...how timeless is that!

I was lucky enough to see Deep Purple live in 1976, just before they split up, Jon Lord & Ian Paice were the only members left from their classic
mark 3 line up of Gillan, Lord, Glover, Paice & Blackmore.

Jon Lord is one of very few rock musians that has a "sound" that belongs to them! He could make a hammond organ talk, still can't believe he has
    left us!
